58% of youth in school-based mentoring programs achieved higher grades in social studies, language and math
62% of students improved self-esteem
52% of students skipped class less often
49% of students got in less trouble in school
There is a universal agreement that good attendance in elementary school prevents dropout problems from incurring in later years. Project SHARE helps to establish a foundation for learning before youth get to the age where they become high school drop-outs. Studies on school-based mentoring programs have shown that youth with mentors are over 50% less likely to have unexcused absences.
Project S.H.A.R.E. has shown that caring and committed individuals, working as a part of a coordinated effort can dramatically impact at-risk elementary age children.
By volunteering you can be
a part of this effort.
What is Project SHARE?
Project SHARE is a comprehensive program for children in need and those struggling with behavioral obstacles.
Project SHARE promotes healthy attitudes regarding education by matching at-risk elementary students with adult mentors in five distinct learning situations.
Project SHARE is available to assist young children in elementary schools.
Project SHARE works in conjunction with Nashville Metropolitan Public Schools and the Juvenile Court System.
Project SHARE is YOU and
Project SHARE is the CHILDREN!
Referrals and Mentors
If you are interested in being a mentor, or if you know of a child in need, please contact Project SHARE.
REFERRALS can be made by anyone. Are you a parent, teacher, principal, guidance counselor, social worker or other concerned adult? Please contact Project SHARE.
One on One Mentoring
Elementary students who are at-risk and displaying negative behaviors are taught the skills to engage appropriately and succeed in the classroom. Positive adult role models spend at least one hour per week individually working with students during the school day.
English as a Second Language Mentoring
Children in Metro ELL classrooms with limited to no English speaking skills receive assistance from Spanish speaking volunteers to assist with the translation of assignments and other educational instruction.
Safe at Last Education
Children utilize Safe At Last skills to recognize unsafe situations such as abuse and inappropriate sexual behaviors. RASAC works with teachers & guidance counselors to implement the program into the schools through volunteers. The volunteers teach children how to differentiate between good and bad touches, identify safe people, along with assertiveness and problem solving if they are in an unsafe situation.
Bullying Prevention
Students in metro schools are taught the school-wide anti-bullying philosophy. Mentors help encourage students to recognize bullying, respond to it and avoid becoming a bully.
After School Mentoring
Elementary students participating in the metro schools after-school programs receive homework help and positive role modeling by non-traditional volunteers such as high school students and those volunteering as groups.
Help a Child Succeed!
If you have a respect for education and a desire for knowledge, consider how it has enhanced your life and share it with a child.
Our volunteers are people just like you.
With as little as one hour a week to share with a child you can make a lifetime of difference. These young children need role models from all sectors of our community to help them reach their potential.
There are so many needs, so many ways to help. Please contact Project S.H.A.R.E. for more information.
